Our Broken World: Definitive Edition submission call

Come one, come all fellow writers, for I am opening up for my first anthology! Our Broken World: Definitive Edition is an episodic horror anthology set in a dark fantasy world inspired by the likes of the Soulsborne series, The Bible, MMORPGs and existential philosophy. Does any of this sound interesting to you?

If yes, please continue reading. Our Broken World: Definitive Edition is an expansion of the original novella: Our Broken World, driven by my desire to explore more of the setting only lightly touched upon. Here is the blurb for it:

Nothing is what it seems.

John and Godwin seem to be alone, the only two souls in the crumbling universe. The celestial visitors, heroes designed to serve and protect, have disappeared. The Gods have gone silent. That is until Godwin finds a strange room with the apparent means to make contact. Desperate for answers or salvation from the reality shattering Breaking. The two friends brave a fracturing world to contact the Gods, to maybe restore the world, or save themselves from destruction.

To qualify for the anthology (aside from writing some great fiction) you need to create a 40k word story. A soft cap of 500 words over or under the limit is acceptable. The narrative needs to focus on exploring themes of existential horror and the corruption/illusion/ loss of faith and God.

You will need to be comfortable with body and surreal horror. Please keep in mind that you are free to call The Breaking anything you’d like. Dark fantasy is acceptable, but horror is preferred.

You need to read Our Broken World Eighth Draft here to better understand what your take could look like. Some ideas that could help inspire you might be from Slave Knight Gael’s boss fight, characters trying to keep a Celestial Visitor imprisoned, or the Deacons of the Deep. It’s important to keep in mind that boss fights are not required, but the use of video game mechanics as a medium for horror is a must. 60% of the royalty profit will be split five ways, resulting in 12% roughly for both eBook and print sales.

Kindly see Draft to Digital for further details. You will need to pay for your own editor. However, for the cover, we can discuss what would be the best for all of us, be a five-way split or I pay for the total amount. Those accepted into the anthology will be required to set up a Draft to Digital account and profile. They will need to ensure they have connected that account to their bank or PayPal in order to receive the royalty payments.

You can find the contract for the submission in the Submission Calls section. The deadline for this is the end of March 2026, end of April max. This is to help you guys write and polish such a big manuscript without causing stress. It will also help your budget and prepare for the costs.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with and am excited to make Our Broken World: Definitive Edition a reality.
